Carat, Color, Clarity and Cut: 4Cs measure the value of diamond jewelry
We associate diamonds and jewels with wealth and brilliance. Four characteristics indicate a gemstone's value: carat, color, clarity, and cut. There are quality grades for all four properties, which are meticulously examined by trained experts and confirmed with a certificate. The higher a diamond's rating for these characteristics, the rarer, more valuable, and more expensive it is.
- Carat:Carat is the unit of measurement that indicates weight. One carat weighs exactly 0.2 grams. The higher the carat, the larger the diamond. Very few gemstones are larger or heavier than 1 carat after cutting.
- Color:Color, or rather the lack of it, also matters. Diamonds are mostly colorless or white. Colored diamonds are created by inclusions of certain elements or irregularities in the crystal lattice, which lead to the absorption of certain wavelengths of light. Depending on the element included, the diamond's color impression varies. Blue diamonds, such as the famous Hope Diamond, for example, get their color from the inclusion of the element boron.
- Clarity:The most expensive stones shine with their pure clarity. Clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and other internal features that impair the stone's brilliance.
- Cut:The fascinating sparkle of diamonds is only revealed by their cut. Perfect proportions and precise surfaces, known as facets in gemstones, ensure that incoming light is reflected in a sparkling, dancing manner. The cut is ideal when the incoming light is reflected back in a parallel plane. There are various cut types or shapes into which a diamond can be cut.
Diamond or brilliant?
Did you know? A brilliant is a specially cut diamond that achieves its high brilliance through the cutting process. Since diamonds are predominantly cut in the brilliant cut, the termbrilliant" has become common in Germany. However, only natural diamonds with a round brilliant cut may be called "brilliant" in the trade.
Used diamond and brilliant jewelry: Sparkling memories for eternity
Like few other gemstones, diamonds symbolize luxury and elegance, love, and eternity. Diamond jewelry is something truly special, which is why diamond rings are the classic engagement ring. As a symbol of eternity, strength, and love, a diamond ring is the ideal companion on the path to a lifelong commitment. For many, diamond jewelry is also a symbol of human existence. People, too, acquire their individual cut over time and develop their personalities. For many lovers of used diamond jewelry, this jewelry symbolizes a person's inner strength and resilience. Vintage diamond jewelry gives wearers the good feeling of adding a new facet to a unique piece with an individual story - without consuming any more resources. This is sustainable action with a clear conscience.

The largest diamond ever discovered, the "Cullinan" (named after mine owner Thomas Cullinan), was discovered in South Africa in 1905. The rough crystal weighed 3,106.75 carats (approximately 621.35 grams). Three years later, the precious stone was split into 105 pieces - and the nine largest diamonds are part of the British Crown Jewels.
